Why Don’t Your Bras Have an Underwire? Will I Have Enough Support Without It?

Why don't your bras have an underwire?

Since moms frequently reach out to our Customer Care team with questions about underwire, we thought we’d share some insights into our reasons for going wire-free.

As any new mom would agree, comfort is queen during pregnancy and postpartum, especially when it comes to undergarments! This need for comfort, coupled with the fact that underwire can be problematic for some women, drew our co-founder Deeanne Akerson to create bras that are comfortable, supportive, and yes, underwire-free.

WHY NO UNDERWIRE?

dfsdsfDuring pregnancy, your breasts grow and develop, creating a more extensive network of milk ducts that extends beyond the breasts to the underarm area and along the ribcage. Once these ducts fill with milk, they can be susceptible to blockages. Repeated compression of the milk ducts or restricted flow of breast milk (which could happen if a restrictive underwire bra puts too much pressure on certain areas) can lead to clogged ducts and mastitis.

In order to allow your milk to flow as freely as possible and help you establish a successful nursing relationship with your little one, experts recommend choosing a nursing bra that is supportive but not restrictive and that accommodates the fluctuations in breast size that are common in early breastfeeding.

Properly fitting, supportive bras – as well as helpful things like nipple cream, a breastfeeding pillow, and reusable nursing pads – can give you the comfort and confidence you need to establish and maintain a healthy breastfeeding relationship and reach your breastfeeding goals.

No underwire? 😬 Will I have saggy uniboob?

Some moms worry that bras without underwire are less supportive, but most of the support in a bra actually comes from the chest band. Nursing bras are no exception. Kindred Bravely’s snug but flexible bras are designed so that 80% of the support comes from the chest band. Plus, our method of sizing ensures that you get the bra you need with a properly fitting chest band and soft, supportive cups.

The cups of each Kindred Bravely bra are designed to provide gentle, contoured shaping - without uncomfortable underwire. With customer descriptions like “clouds for your boobs,” “heavenly pillows,” “made of the softest material you can imagine,” and “no uniboob,” we’ve got you covered in the nursing bra department!

A GOOD NURSING BRA CAN
MAKE BREASTFEEDING EASIER

how a nursing bra can help you breastfeed

Breastfeeding doesn’t always begin as effortlessly as we expect. It takes time for you and your baby to get acquainted with one another, find the right angles and positions, and pick up on each other’s cues. Uncomfortable bras that are difficult to use, don’t fit properly, or poke and prod can be major obstacles to forming a productive nursing relationship. Your nursing bras should be part of the solution!

For any questions about fit or finding the right bra, contact our Customer Care team. We can be reached through Live Chat on our website, email at hello@kindredbravely.com, or Facebook Messenger.

At Kindred Bravely, our goal is to remove breastfeeding barriers. We aim to give mamas exactly what they need from their nursing bras, tanks, pajamas, and more, and we’re committed to supporting you on your motherhood journey.
