A baby shower can be one of the most memorable pregnancy milestones. New-parent nerves (whether it’s the first, second, or fifth child) are usually in high gear—and for many, a party can be just the thing to help encourage, prepare, and celebrate the growing family. Not only is it a time to relax and celebrate, but also it’s a reminder for the parent or parents-to-be that their lives are full of family and friends ready to help support them through this journey. Since baby showers often have games, we’ve put together a mix of traditional and nontraditional activities to help get your gears turning.
I’m a list maker by nature. So when it came time to pack my hospital bag I scoured my pregnancy books, dug through the internet, asked for suggestions from every mom I knew, and wrote the longest list known to womankind. As I stared at my packing list, I began to realize most of it wasn’t necessary, instead it was fuel by misconceptions about what the hospital experience would be. While every mom has a different delivery experience, I want to share with you the items that made my list to help you decide what’s best for you.
No matter what you get the mom-to-be, the gift of your support and encouragement are the most appreciated. If you’re local, be sure to drop food or a bag of groceries off in the coming weeks! Ask if you can help with an errand, or take an older child on a special outing so mom can have a much needed nap with the baby.
